COREtec Cairo Oak luxury vinyl plank flooring installed by Cardinal Floors in a Polo Run living room in Lakewood Ranch

Our work: COREtec Cairo Oak luxury vinyl plank in Polo Run, Lakewood Ranch.

The short answer: compare the product, not just the category.

Luxury vinyl deserves a close look when everyday spills, easy care and comfort are high on your list. Laminate is also worth considering when you want a firm feel, realistic wood visuals and a surface designed for everyday wear.

The laminates we carry are water resistant from topical moisture. With either material, the specific collection, installation requirements and care instructions matter more than a broad “best flooring” label.

Luxury vinyl and laminate at a glance

What matters Luxury vinyl plank Laminate
Everyday spills Water resistance makes it a practical option for surface spills. Clean up promptly and follow the product’s instructions. Our laminates are water resistant from topical moisture. Check the collection’s spill-care and room-use requirements.
Scratches and wear Compare surface protection and wear specifications. A thicker wear layer alone does not tell the whole story. A durable surface can be a strong selling point. Compare the finish and wear rating of the actual product.
Comfort and sound WPC options are worth comparing when a softer feel and quieter footsteps matter. Usually feels firm underfoot. The flooring and approved underlayment together affect sound and feel.
Floor preparation Requires a suitable, properly prepared surface and attention to moisture beneath the floor. Also requires proper preparation, moisture protection where specified and space for movement.
Project cost Product selection, removal, preparation, trim and installation all affect the estimate. Compare the same complete scope of work. The material price alone is not the project price.

This is a starting point. Performance and approved uses vary by collection.

What matters in a Florida home?

Surface spills and moisture underneath are different.

Water resistance from topical moisture means resistance to water on the surface, such as everyday spills. It does not resolve a damp slab, a plumbing leak or moisture trapped underneath the flooring.

Even when a product is marketed as waterproof, the installed floor should not be treated as a waterproof barrier for your home. We evaluate the existing surface and moisture conditions, then follow the requirements for the flooring you choose.

Sand, pets and furniture affect both materials.

There is no scratch-proof floor. Compare the actual finish and wear specifications, and tell us about pets, busy entryways and furniture that moves often. Removing tracked-in grit and using suitable furniture protectors help reduce avoidable wear.

Comfort is worth comparing in person.

Two floors with a similar color can feel different underfoot. We like to include WPC luxury vinyl in the conversation when comfort is a priority. Compare it with other vinyl constructions and laminate samples before deciding.

The installation plan matters, too.

Before either floor goes down, we look at the existing flooring, surface flatness, moisture concerns and transitions to adjoining rooms. Door clearances, trim and stairs can also affect the finished result.

Compare the full estimate.

Ask what is included for materials, removal and disposal, floor preparation, transitions, trim and installation. A useful comparison puts both flooring choices against the same rooms and scope of work.
